Ian is Hill & Associates’ Country Manager for Thailand and Service Line Leader for Risk Intelligence.
Drawing on 25 years of experience in Asia, he is considered to be one of the region’s leading analysts. Ian joined Hill & Associates in 2007 to lead the company’s Risk Intelligence Service in
Indonesia, during which time he initiated the Viewpoint Report Series with 40 reports issued quarterly between 2007 and 2016. Ian served as Country Manager in Indonesia from 2010 to 2014, relocating to London in January 2015 as Global Head of Risk Analysis for G4S Risk Consulting, leading a team of analysts there alongside Hill & Associates’ analysts in Asia. In January 2017 Ian returned to
Southeast Asia to lead our operations in Thailand and Vietnam and in 2018 was appointed Director for Mainland Southeast Asia. A published author in Indonesia, Ian provides expertise on a broad spectrum of risk topics. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Humanities and a Master’s degree in International Studies.

Ian’s recent consulting experience includes:
•Led an investigation into suspected Plant Variety Protected (PVP) seed theft, cultivation, harvest, processing and sale across Thailand for a major MNC agribusiness company. The investigation was comprised of multiple work streams including field work, due diligence, DNA testing and other methodologies.

•Led a study into sentiment perception and analysis utilising online monitoring platforms and tools during the ongoing political risk crisis in Hong Kong for a major US MNC corporation.

•Led the company’s Asia Viewpoint report series on topics ranging from cyber security and election risk to geopolitical threats and trends and developments in regional terrorism, with briefings and presentations in Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta and other capitals.

•Led an intensive study for a major US gaming and entertainment corporation into the market and business environment for a new venture in the Maldives amid the contentious political environment there.

Ian worked in business consultancy between 1996 and 2006, joining Hill & Associates in 2007 to lead the company’s Risk Intelligence Service in Indonesia and establishing the company’s Viewpoint Report Series, earning him a reputation as a prominent researcher on country and political risk. Ian served as Country Manager for Hill & Associates in Indonesia from 2009 to 2014, relocating to London in 2015 as Global Head of Risk Analysis for G4S Risk Consulting, leading a team of analysts there alongside Hill & Associates’ own analysts in Asia. In 2017 he returned to Southeast Asia to lead the company’s operations in Thailand, Vietnam, and the broader Mekong sub-region. As Service Line Leader for Risk Intelligence, he manages a team of analysts throughout the region. In April 2018 he was designated Director for Mainland Southeast Asia. Ian graduated from Exeter University with a Master’s degree in International Studies, majoring in governance, political Islam and political risk analysis. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in the Humanities (Politics and Philosophy) and is certified in Intractable Conflict Training, Comparative Community Development and Islamic Studies. Ian speaks fluent English, Danish and Indonesian.

Bryce leads a team of analysts at Hill & Associates Jakarta office, producing daily risk briefs and alerts for clients, along with bespoke reports and in-depth analysis on Indonesia and Southeast Asia more
broadly. Bryce is a former journalist with experience reporting in Australia, Indonesia and the United States. He was selected for a prestigious cadetship with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in
2002 and served as a journalist covering stories across Western Australia. In 2007, Bryce moved to the United States where he worked as Executive Director of a corporate communications and public
relations agency before returning to Australia in 2008 to rejoin the ABC as a producer and presenter.
Bryce had been a regular visitor to Indonesia since 2007 and in 2014 relocated to Jakarta for a role at BeritaSatu English, the country’s first English-language TV news channel. During his tenure in
Indonesia he has covered stories for ABC Australia, BBC World News, France 24 and TV3 New Zealand, among other networks. Bryce has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Public Relations and Politics. He speaks Bahasa Indonesia.

Bryce was previously a journalist with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, working in radio and television news and current affairs. In 2007, he moved to the United States to lead a boutique corporate communications and public relations agency. Bryce returned to Australia in 2008 where he served as a producer and presenter for ABC Radio and Content Director at a community radio station, managing a large team responsible for producing 24 hour-a-day programming.

Bryce was a regular visitor to Indonesia for more than a decade, and in 2014 relocated to Jakarta where he took up a role at BeritaSatu English, an English-language cable news channel. During his tenure he covered stories from Indonesia for ABC Australia, BBC World News, France 24 and TV3 New Zealand, among other networks.
